Four Days: Cover Reveal

I'm very excited to present the cover for FOUR DAYS! I've often told readers with my writing "Expect the unexpected", and that goes for my covers as well.

More information below, as well as an excerpt. Search for bloggers on the net and Facebook who are involved in my cover reveal, because they have a different excerpt.  :)

Four Days (Seven Series #4)

Ivy believes every life must have balance, and during the past year, she’s found harmony living with the Weston pack. When an evil spirit from her past threatens her wolf, it sets off a chain reaction of events that alters the course of her destiny.

Lorenzo Church is a powerful, wealthy Packmaster who rules his pack through intimidation and order. He has vowed to never love a woman because love can destroy an empire. But chaos is fast approaching in the form of a Shifter named Ivy—a Native American, like him, who has invaded his dreams since the moment they met. She is spirited, wise, and unattainable.

In an unexpected turn of events, Ivy must choose whether or not to let go of the one person she has always loved. Lorenzo discovers the root of her courage but will never win her as his mate unless he learns to listen to his heart.

Destiny will find you

So the most glaring difference is that we finally have a woman on the cover (woot!). I'm not writing a conventional paranormal romance, so it makes sense that the covers embody the character. Actually, the one who gets the cover is a Weston pack member, since this family is who the story centers around. I've been doing my best to locate models who best represent my characters, but still encourage readers to let their imaginations run wild. ;-)

THE SEVEN SERIES takes place in the same world as the Mageri series (I call it all the "mageri universe"), and is an expansion of it. I'm getting frequent messages and emails from readers who were reluctant to read the Seven series, but quickly fell into the stories. It's a different sub genre than urban fantasy, but what drew readers to my writing will still be found with this new series.

Add it to your Goodreads shelf HERE. Remember, you can recommend books to your Goodreads friend on each book page.

Due to spoilers, I've had to snip a lot out.

"It tackles the duality in people. Two sides of us that conflict, or where one is hidden."

"If you want to torture your readers, you can tell them you made your editor cry and have to take a break."

"Another woah moment mixed with a Squeeee!!!!

"I was blown away, but so happy at the same time. That could not have been a better situation. I'm still getting chills."

"She has been the most relatable protagonist yet in this series. She has quiet strength with a pragmatic approach. I can't commend you enough for giving her life and personality..."

"Holy. Shit. I love you, Dannika Dark. You are a goddess of paranormal romance! I literally shouted at the computer screen."

"And the ending, damn it moved me."

Lorenzo reached out and stroked my cheek. “When we first met, you were but a flowering vine swinging from the tree I found you in, trying to cling to anyone who would hold you.”
I brushed his hand away and drew back. “You are no better than my father, comparing me to a poisonous vine. I am not the desperate woman you make me out to be, and I have no need to cling to anyone but those who love me. I will not hold on to a great oak, because as magnificent as it may be, it will never hold me back. My family holds me with their kind words and love, and that is all a Shifter can ask for. What is it you want, Lorenzo? To question the integrity of my Packmaster? We’re better off within the city. There are places to take refuge, those who might help us, and…”
Through my powerful speech, Lorenzo cracked a smile. It was slight at first, but it became wide and he flashed his teeth at me.
I had begun to turn away when Lorenzo captured my wrist and tugged me against him. His arm slid around my lower back in a claiming gesture. He cupped the nape of my neck with his other hand, and before I could protest, Lorenzo rubbed noses with me.
In the middle of a crowded club.
“Such a spirited wolf you have,” he growled.
“What do you want of me?”
He drew in a breath, as if taking in my scent. “Don’t you want to be my friend?”
“A man like you doesn’t make friends—he makes enemies.”
Lorenzo kissed me hard, his tongue slipping so deep that my legs quivered. Then he drew back and rubbed noses again. “I can do friendship. Sunday night. Checkers. My place.” He pressed his lips to my ear and seduced me with whispers. “I can’t get you out of my head. These men leer at you in a way that makes me want to lose control. You need protection.”
“My pack protects me,” I said, forgetting the crowd around us as we held each other close.
“Will they protect you with their bodies as I will with mine?”
I tried to create distance between us. “Actions speak louder than words, and nothing but honey drips from your mouth.”
He chuckled darkly. “Your sharp tongue and wise words make my wolf sing.”

How to receive updates

Facebook seems to be a very popular place for people to seek me out, and I strongly encourage readers to like my public page HERE

However, even if you subscribe, less than 10% (even less than that) of subscribers will see my posts on their newsfeed. Facebook blocks them. Why? They want me to pay them money per post. Even then, not all my subscribers will see it. Seems crazy that you aren't allowed to see the posts from a page you subscribe to.

I'm currently having random winter giveaways on my page. I've also posted links to the Seven Years papaerback giveaway on Goodreads. Did you see that? Mayhap you didn't.

This is so frustrating for authors who want to keep in touch with readers. So here are TIPS:

1. Add my page to your interests or favorites. HOVER your mouse over the LIKED button and select "Add to Interests" and "Get notifications". On the left side of your newsfeed you'll see INTERESTS on that long menu, and once you've added my page I should appear there. From that point, you can hover your mouse over the little mechanical wheel on the left and add my page to your FAVORITES, which bumps me to the top of that lefthand menu.

Don't wait for Facebook to show you my posts; just come visit me as often as you can. I get so many readers who miss out on important announcements, cover reveals, sales, or giveaways because they didn't see the posts on their newsfeed. Most probably won't, so pretend I'm your BFF, and instead of waiting for an invitation, just swing by my place.

 2. Like, Share, Comment on my posts. You may be wondering why I'm always asking you to do this, but there is a reason! This tells the little gremlins that you are interested in my page and they'll be more likely to continue showing my posts on your newsfeed. This also helps the visibility of that post with other readers. So, SO important, because I want to share them with as many of my readers as possible, and you are a big part of helping with that.

Most importantly, subscribe to my newsletter HERE.
Those who subscribe get updates on SALES, RELEASE DATES, EARLY SNEAK PEEKS, and other important announcements or even release date changes. I don't send these frequently, only when something important is going on.

To avoid my newsletters from going to spam (because yeah, that happens too), simply add the email in the "from" field on your confirmation (or newsletters you've received) to your whitelist (address book/contact list). Even if you've received my updates before, your server could go all blinky and start tossing me in the bad bin. That tells your email server I'm a friend. I'd still recommend checking your spam/promotional folders every so often. If I accidentally end up there, move me into the inbox before deleting the message. Deleting it in the spam folder tells your server to send my future emails there.

All this work just to stay in touch with you guys.

You can also follow me on Twitter HERE because my facebook posts will feed over. I'm not overly active on twitter, but it's a great alternative to actually seeing all my Facebook posts!

I have a cover reveal for FOUR DAYS coming on Nov 19, but those subscribed to my newsletter will get it early.

If you want to talk about the books or new release, swing by the MAGERI DISCUSSION FORUM on Facebook. This group is for all things Dannika Dark (Seven series/Mageri series, etc)
Please avoid posting any spoilers on new releases (usually a separate event is set up for those who are done reading it so the entire group doesn't get spoiled).

So, in a nutshell, here are all the ways you can either stay in touch with me or receive updates.

It's been a while since I've posted an update, and I know not everyone who reads my website follows me on Facebook.

So, here are some updates!

FOUR DAYS COVER REVEAL: Coming Nov 19 - next Wednesday! However, those who are signed up for my newsletter will see it and read the synopsis before everyone else. So be sure you are signed up HERE.

FOUR DAYS RELEASE DATE: Coming December 16. Just a reminder for anyone who missed the announcement last month. Those on my newsletter will receive direct links emailed right to your inbox! Reviews posted mean so, so much, and I hope you take a second to support Four Days by writing a review. :)

NEWSLETTER REMINDER: I say this a lot, but sometimes my updates might end up in your spam/promotional folders. When you sign up (or locate a previous newsletter), add the email address in the FROM field to your whitelist (address book/contact list). Check your spam folders (you might need to locate them under another sub folder) regularly. If my mail ever ends up there, move it to your inbox before deleting so you can tell your email system not to do that again. :) I have no control over what your mail server might do with my mail, so I'm just offering some tips!

GIVEAWAYS: I'll be hosting giveaways on my Facebook page (and possibly newsletter) throughout this winter. This is just my way of saying thanks, having fun, and sharing swag with true fans of these books.

WHAT I'M WORKING ON: I'm currently writing the first draft of another Seven Series novel. I'm also doing edits on other projects as well. My current goal is to work on a Mageri world novel for my next project, and what you can expect from me after the Seven series is an urban fantasy romance (Similar to what you've come to love about the Mageri series). I have Mageri fans and Seven fans, and I hope each will give my other books a chance. You might be surprised at what you're missing out on and how these worlds overlap. But I do tend to write both paranormal romance and urban fantasy to make sure all my readers are happy. :-)

SEVEN YEARS AUDIOBOOK: Seven Years is now available in audiobook on Tantor, Audible, Amazon and elsewhere. A lot of fans (including those who never listened to audiobooks before) are having fun experiencing the Mageri and Seven series books for the first time all over again through audio. Compare prices and check them out! Six Months and Five Weeks will be released this year (Check out my WIP page for the dates)

I may be missing some other news, but that's all that springs to mind at the moment. I've been very busy with ongoing projects, as well as breaking in a new laptop.

Stay warm!

Mageri Q&A

During a Mageri event, there were a lot of questions from readers submitted for a giveaway. I answered one and decided to save the rest. I had a little free time this evening and thought I'd post a few of them here for your enjoyment.

Warning: If you have not read the Mageri series or Seven series, what are you waiting for? The Q&A below will contain spoilers. You've been forewarned.

Q: What were your thoughts about the relationship between Silver and Justus while writing the books. Did you always want them to have a father daughter bond?

A: That became evident to me when I wrote Sterling. Their interaction with each other had that bit of discomfort, where you have two attractive people who aren't really attracted to the other person. When Justus became her Ghuardian, that put him in a fatherly type of role, and while many books will go that route, that's not what their relationship was about. In the end, it made him a better man and prepared him for what fate had in store.

Q:  How do you decide on which character to write about next? Is there any influence by the readers comments?

A:  The characters always decide who gets the spotlight and/or appears in the next book. I don't see all the reader comments out there, however that has no influence over my writing, nor the order of the books in the Seven series, for example.

Q: Will Christian pop up in any other of your writings? Just give me hope!

A: Please visit my WIP page on my website (menu at the top).  I did write him in another book and hope to share him with readers again in the future.

Q: When will Seven series come out on audio? As much as I love the books, I don't have time to read, so audio books fix that problem.

A: You can either visit my WIP page for full dates or Tantor.com. Seven Years will be on audio in November, with books 1-3 all to be published by year's end.

do you prefer to write about one species in your world or multi species as in the Mageri series.

A: The Mageri series allowed me to create the world and introduce it to readers. The Seven series allowed me to share a specific corner of that world. Each series I publish in the future I plan to take place in this world. Some will have more spotlight on certain Breeds, while others will have a broader scope. I do enjoy focusing primarily on one in the sense that it gives readers more insight to their lifestyle, but I can't say that I have a preference. As long as I'm writing in my world, I'm happy.

for Christian, why did you wipe Silver's memory that time she saw you having sex? What was the big deal? Was it because you told her to watch? and I hope we hear from you soon

A: Christian isn't here to answer, but he didn't want to deal with Justus. He knew he crossed the line when he invited her to watch, and nobody wants to get on Justus's bad side. The lesson here was that Vampires like Christian don't think it's a big deal to scrub someone's memory of something trivial, but Silver felt the act was invasive and something he had no right to do. Just because someone *can* use their gift, doesn't mean they should. Silver was a vehicle in the series for allowing others to see things from a different perspective. She was an interloper in this world with strong opinions, and it had an impact on those around her.

Q: What do you do when you are in the middle of a story and one of your other characters won't shut up (Christian)? Do you pause and let him speak (take notes) or try to put them off as long as possible?

A: Usually when I'm writing, the only one's talking are those in the scene. It's when I stop writing that sometimes they invade my thoughts, but that's just the creative process of working out problems within the story.

I know that all of your books take place in the same world, do you ever think about or have a hankering to write something totally different or in another genre?

A: I have written a few contemporary romances, but never finished them. I want to be passionate about what I write, and it could be I haven't found the right kind of story that's sucking me in like urban fantasy and paranormal romance does. Another thing to consider is if I begin writing another genre, it will mean less time writing in this world, and my time will become divided. If readers ever reach a point where they've just had enough of my world, then I suppose I'll just have to write western romances.

Dannika my question is this how does it truly feel to know that the books/series that you have written have touched so many peoples heart, because I for one have read all of your books and I can only state it that way, that each and every one has touched my heart in one way or another. And I know every person in this group feels the same way, the love we have for you as an author is never ending and I just wonder how that affects you and if it effect how you write?

A: That question alone hits me in the feels. I'm extremely grateful to readers for not only the support they've given me, but how passionate they are about the characters and stories I write. I'm so glad to know that they've been a positive influence for someone, whether it's because they can relate to the story or they're going through a difficult time. Books are not only a wonderful form of escape, but a way for readers to connect to very threads that weave our lives together.

Dannika, did you find yourself limited by only having 7 books in the Seven series? We know that you let the characters do the talking, and sometimes they hijack you into changing your intended course (like the order for the series); did you ever worry that you might be forced trying to fit a square peg into a round hole by having a set number?

A: That's an interesting question because Seven Years was originally begun as a stand-alone novel. As it evolved, I realized this could be a series. Having a number can be limiting, but I think every story needs an end. I don't know if I could write an infinite number of books in a series without it becoming forced. Not only that, but my WIP page would end up covered in cobwebs. I did squeeze in an eighth book that will be Seven World. It can be read as a stand-alone, but will place in the series just after Two Minutes. For those not familiar with the term "World", it's an extension of the series by telling the story of sub characters in a way that won't directly impact the main series itself.

Where are you going with your next series?

A: I'm hoping to start working on that next year once I get the Seven books completed. I've said this before and I don't think it's changed, but I have plans to write another urban fantasy (romance?) in the vein of Mageri, where it follows one protagonist. I didn't plan to write the Seven series, so one never knows what'll happen. However I do want to bridge the gap between urban fantasy and paranormal romance readers, and so I will be writing within both genres.

What is the significance of Sept 5th to Dannika other than the release date of her books?

A: Ha. Pure coincidence. I saw that discussion circulating. If I had masterminded the release date, it's completely slipped my memory.

It has been mentioned previously that a book or series about the Gemani was kind of in the works. I am intrigued by Remi's character; will this include him and have you come any closer to working on that story?

A:  Since that's a stand-alone, I'm hoping it's one of those books I can squeeze in at some point. It's not Remi's story, but that book is in first draft status, so I will need to review it to see how much work it will require to publish. I know how it can be when there's that one character that piques your curiosity and you want to know more about, but there are never guarantees. It's not to say everyone's book is closed from that series. I always like to leave doors open, just a crack.

And that phrase always creeps me out because it reminds me of a Stephen King short story I read about the Bogeyman.

Is there any way that you can add your bookmarks to your Zazzle store. It would be great to get the bookmarks, even if they have a non personal signature on them.

A: I wish there was a way to make bookmarks available, however that's not an option within the Zazzle store. The ones they do have my bookmarks would not work with.

I hope some of these answers were insightful! It's always a great feeling when readers connect so strongly with my characters, and even more exciting when they fall in love all over again with a brand new character I've introduced. I hope you look forward to each book and series with eager anticipation of what might await you - what new adventures, peril, heroines, and swoony men who will steal your heart. :)

September Updates

Just to keep those in the loop who have not signed up for my newsletter or follow me on Facebook:

I will be partnering with Tantor once again, this time to bring the Seven series to audiobook.  Once I have information on dates and so forth, I'll let you know. Great fun for existing fans, but also an excellent reach to those who prefer books in audio format.

I have sent a tentative release date for FOUR DAYS. Dec 16th is the target date, so mark your calendars! If anything changes, I'll be sure to post, but fingers crossed everything is good to go.

You will learn more about Four Days once I reveal the cover and have a synopsis for you. This includes who the book centers on. The suspense makes it half the fun.

I have also partnered with Amazon Crossing for the German translation of Sterling. German-speaking fans, get ready. Silbermagier releases on Sept. 16

You can purchase your copy on all Amazon language sites where books are sold.

There are more fun projects in the pipeline, so keep a lookout!

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

It's been a busy year, but especially lately. I have a few fun announcements coming soon that readers will enjoy for different reasons.  I'm hoping to nail down a release date for "Four Days", and I've got my first cover mock-up design. It still has several steps to complete before it's ready for publication, so hope you guys are as eager as I am for its release.

The German edition of Sterling is coming out this month (Silbermagier) so German readers, look for that.

Christmas is coming, and a great time to start putting things on your wishlist (or buying for others). I hope you keep my books in mind, as well as the audiobooks. They're amazingly fun to listen to. You can also look up "Mageri" on Zazzle.com for my store and pick up some Seven Series and Mageri series swag. The coffee cups are always a great thing to have around (don't even ask how many I've acquired).

This week will mark my third year in publishing, and it's been a crazy adventure. So many changes have taken place in publishing. I never thought I'd be happy working 100+ hours a week at any job, but it really takes that kind of dedication to get anywhere, and I'm fortune that I happen to love what I do. Anyhow, I'm thinking about a contest of some kind, so just be on the lookout either here or Facebook.

Just a quick update to let you know I'm working hard to get more books into your hands! Thanks to everyone who continues posting reviews, sending me messages and e-mails, and recommends to friends. That kind of support is invaluable to me. <3

Seven Series questions

So I posted on Facebook asking if anyone had any questions related to the Seven series, to post a comment. I'd select the ones I could answer and write something up. Some of the same questions were asked more than once, and mostly the ones I couldn't answer..lol But, grab your popcorn and here we go!

Will you have a story about Denver? Hoping so!

By far, the most questions were asked about Denver. I can't reveal which characters will get a story and in what order that may happen. Obviously anyone who has done the math has figured out the number of Cole brothers doesn't match the plan of seven books. Not all characters may get a book, and the ones that do may not be who you expect. This isn't going to be a predictable series that follows a formula, and to be honest, it really boils down to which characters want their story told. There are some who are perfectly fine with staying out of the spotlight, much like the Mageri series. Sometimes I can't even strangle out of them. :) But I will say that each book I have deeply enjoyed every book I've written in this series thus far, and readers will be pleasantly surprised at how it all unfolds.

Are any of your major characters from the Mageri books going to make an appearanc,e and have u got other stories to write when this current series ends

I have announced before there will be a Mageri series connection. I won't elaborate on when that occurs, nor exactly what it means. I'm a firm believer that the reader is going to enjoy the ride much more if they don't know what's around the corner. Other projects in the works after this series can be found on the WIP page on my blog. (WIP=Works in progress)

Q: Which was the most challenging character to write in the SS and why?

I've been working on first drafts for the full series, and out of all the books the most challenging was who you'll see in Three Hours. I can't say why, but this person was initially planned to be in Four Days. Let's just say he wouldn't cooperate with his story, so I had to rearrange the order. I was really concerned I wouldn't get his story out, but some men are just stubborn like that. Out of the already-published books, I'd say the most challenging to write was April. I really wanted to dig for her character to find out what made her tick beyond what we saw in Seven Years.

Will You put the seven series on audio anytime soon?

I'd love to have all my books on audio. There's a process involved, so I can't say you'll likely see anything in the immediate future. But sign up for my newsletter because whenever there's news, you'll be the first to know.

When is Four Days going to be released? When is the cover reveal for Four Days? When will we know who Four Days is about?

You can follow my website, Facebook page, Twitter for announcements. But I'd highly recommend signing up for the newsletter. I don't have a date locked in and the cover design still needs to happen. For those who aren't familiar, I keep the book under wraps until the cover reveal. During that time, readers will get their first peek at not only the synopsis, but usually an excerpt. The plan is you'll be seeing Four Days this year. Just keep in mind I'm not a speed machine..lol Publishing takes an enormous amount of time and energy.

I love the gay characters in both SS and Mageri. Is there a story there you would like to tell?

Thanks for that! I absolutely love that both Levi and Trevor have their own following, respectively. It means a lot to have readers connect with them and appreciate what they bring to the books.  While there is always a main story, I never want it to overshadow the sub-characters from having their moments. Everyone has a purpose, and sometimes those who have the least amount of page time can have the biggest impact. Hopefully readers appreciate that. :)  I'm not sure if that answers the question, but stories being expanded on are entirely up to the characters, not the author.

Who has been your favourite character to write?

Of the published books, I'd have to say Lexi. Her and Austin were effortless, and I enjoyed their scenes together. It's like picking children and not easy to do, because Izzy was a blast.

Was Izzy's main catch phrase a tribute to ac/dc?

Not intentionally. lol It's funny, but I can't even recall where that phrase came from. (Hell's bells). I don't dig around for catchphrases, but it seems like each of my characters acquires certain words or phrases during the writing process. Once I catch myself writing it more than once, I add it to their bio. That's part of what makes us all unique is that we speak differently.

As for questions about Prince, babies, pack wars, and how far in the future this series will span.....
you'll just have to keep reading.
