Facts about "Sterling"

I thought it would be fun to post a few facts about "Sterling". Hope you find these interesting!

The original manuscript was well over 100,000 words

Three title considerations were: "Lightwalkers", "Altered", and "Silver Born".

Justus's original name was Dominic.

Originally, I was going to invent a new Breed called Shiners. I wasn't sure how readers would respond to the explanation of what a Mage really was. But after considering that all we know of supernaturals is what we've read in books or seen in movies, it's quite easy for us to have gotten the facts wrong. Watching what a Mage can do could be easily perceived as "magical", so I took a leap of faith and went with my gut. I really wanted to do something different with a familiar Breed.

Cognito is the central fictitious city that most of my books take place in. I chose the name because it sounds like a cool name for a city, and because I have a sense of humor and thought it would be funny for someone to say that they live in Cognito

Some perceived plotholes in the original book are intentional. When I finished book 1, I immediately started writing book 2, then 3, and so on. I had a story unraveling in my head and could barely keep up with it.

---            ----           ----         ----        ----

I pronounce Mageri as ma-jur-ee (ma sounds like "man", not "Mah") Easy enough! I've been thinking of adding a glossary to my website, hmmm.

---            ----           ----         ----        ----
This series will include existing Breeds with made up ones. None of them sparkle.

---            ----           ----         ----        ----
I know everyone may have their favorite scene or line, but mine has always been the scene where she is talking about her new name and wondering what her last name is: "And so help me, if you tell me it's Ware, I'll drop kick you where you stand."  It was a tense moment, and was fitting to add her humor in that spot, despite the seriousness of what was about to happen.

---            ----           ----         ----        ----
It was important that gifts & abilities come with weaknesses. For instance: flashing seems like a great ability - to be able to move fast for short distances - but it will also deplete a Mage of stored energy. Limitations make things interesting.
